The Alabama offensive line had one of its most masterful performances of the 2021 college football season in the SEC Championship Game against Georgia. The big boys up front gave their Heisman Trophy winning quarterback, Bryce Young, tons of time to throw against one of the most talented front sevens in college football. Not only did the line block well, but they allowed Young to carve up the ‘Dawgs for 421 passing yards, an all-time record for the SEC Championship Game.

During his team’s preparation for Cincinnati in the upcoming Goodyear Cotton Bowl, O’Brien took a few minutes to speak with the media about the Crimson Tide offensive line and how they’ve progressed over the season.

“You know the offensive line over the year has learned and grown together. We lost some experience off that line from last year. We had some guys playing for the first time and they learned and they grew together. And they got better every week,” he said.

“Give credit to many of the defenses that we played. We played against some really good defenses that had some good gameplans coming in. But in the end, we were able to come out victorious in most of our games-which is a credit to our offensive line and everybody else on offense–coaching staff, the whole thing. We came out of the Auburn game-we made some adjustments. We knew what we had to do to get fixed. And then we studied Georgia and we tried to do as good of a job as we could. And now we’ve moved onto obviously, Cincinnati,” the Alabama offensive coordinator said.

The offensive line’s performance against Georgia was one of the best in college football in 2021

Truth be told, the Alabama offensive line’s performance against Georgia was one of the best performances by any team in college football during the 2021 season. They didn’t allow a single sack to a front seven that, before the SEC Championship Game, was putting up remarkably dominant numbers across the board. The Crimson Tide also rushed for over 100 yards against Georgia.

Even after allowing 41 points to Alabama, the Georgia defense has still only allowed 9.5 points per game–first in the nation. The next closest team is currently Clemson at 15 points per game. Alabama took a historic defense and made them look unbelievably bad.

Crimson Tide fans are hoping the unit carries the same momentum into the upcoming College Football Playoffs.
