Alabama AD Greg Byrne reveals if anything could change Brandon Miller's status
Alabama star Brandon Miller went off in a win over South Carolina amid an investigation regarding former player Darius Miles. Miles is the alleged shooter and was charged with capital murder in a case from January.
Miller was allegedly the one who brought a gun to Miles at the scene but has not been legally charged with any crime. Since Miller was linked to the shooting, Alabama AD Greg Byrne answered if anything could change his playing status.
This was in reaction to Miller playing against South Carolina and head coach Nate Oats saying he’d make decisions based on facts.
“Well, we have the information that we have today,” Byrne said on the College GameDay Podcast. “And obviously we’re going to continue to cooperate with law enforcement and anybody else out there that needs to be a part of this. And if we gather new information down the road, then we’ll deal with it at that time. But I also, you know, none of us have a crystal ball completely. We need to be very respectful of what law enforcement is doing through this process. And we have been and we will continue to be in the future.”
Miller allegedly received texts from Miles to bring the gun used in last month’s shooting. Gamecocks faithful booed Miller when he touched the ball on Wednesday, at one point, changed “guilty” toward him. Then, when he stepped to the free throw line, they started chanting “Lock him up.”
Alas, Miller ironically had a career night on Wednesday, amassing 41 points in an overtime win. Oats’ latest comments make it seem like he’ll have plenty of time to build on it, as well.

The news has taken the college basketball world by storm, but Oats and the powers at Alabama are taking it one day at a time regarding Miller.
During his answer about Miller’s involvement earlier this week, Oats said Miller was in the “wrong spot [at the] wrong time,” and he later issued a statement clarifying what he said.
“Before we get into the game, I just want to address yesterday’s press conference and my response to the Brandon Miller question,” Oats said. “I’m not here to make excuses. I want to make it clear I didn’t have the details from the hearing that morning since I was coming straight from practice. I used a poor choice of words making it appear like I wasn’t taking this tragic situation seriously, which we have throughout the course of it. I sincerely apologize for that.
“I know Greg [Byrne] shared some information earlier today on the situation. I don’t really have anything more to add other than what he shared.”
