WATCH: Brandon Miller drains last-second layup, sends Alabama past South Carolina
It’s been an interesting week for Brandon Miller and Alabama, to say the least. Wednesday night, the freshman star put together a career performance against South Carolina — and it couldn’t have come at a better time.
Miller set a new career high with 41 points, including a key basket to send the game to overtime. But the biggest shot of the night came with 0.9 seconds left when he hit a layup that hit every inch of the rim before falling through. That shot put Alabama ahead 78-76, which held as the final score. If you’re keeping score at home, every other Crimson Tide player combined for 37 points.
It was quite the exclamation point on an incredible performance for Miller, one that came amid plenty of noise off the court over the last 36 hours. With it, Alabama avoided an upset.
Miller’s name has been in the news for the last couple days after a police testimony revealed Darius Miles texted him just before last month’s shooting, which killed Jamea Jonae Harris. Police said Miles texted Miller to bring the gun, but Miller’s attorney said in a statement Miller thought he was going to pick Miles up and didn’t know there was a gun in the car. He confirmed Miler was on the scene and his car was struck by the gunfire.

It wasn’t an easy atmosphere for Miller and the Crimson Tide on Wednesday night as a result of the outside noise. The South Carolina student section directed boos and chants at Miller, including a “Lock him up” chant while he shot free throws in the first half. Still, he pushed through for a career performance, adding eight rebounds to his 41 points.
Miller and Alabama will now look to improve on their 14-1 SEC record when they return home to take on Arkansas Saturday at 2 p.m. ET on ESPN2.
