One could say Bryce Young is taking a big risk by playing in Alabama’s matchup versus Kansas State in the Sugar Bowl. However, the former Heisman quarterback has no concern about his health during what will be his final appearance in a Crimson Tide uniform.

Young spoke about the injury risk of playing in New Orleans on New Year’s Eve during his media availability on Monday. He says his only goal is to help Alabama win against the Wildcats and leave the concerns up to his faith.

“The goal is always just to go out there and win. Do whatever it takes to win and do what I have to do to do what’s best for the team,” said Young. “I know everything happens for a reason. I place my faith in God. I’m concerned about doing what’s best for the team. Whatever it is, play-by-play, possession-by-possession to, on offense, to go try and put points on the board.

Young has been nothing but a winner during his time as the Crimson Tide’s QB1. Alabama is 22-4 in 2021 and 2022 when Young started as their quarterback. Now, although an injury or aggravation of anything he suffered earlier this season could cost him come the NFL Draft in April, Young’s only worry is finding a way to get that 23rd win of his career and 11th of Alabama’s season against the Big 12 Champion Wildcats at the end of the month.

Bryce Young explains ‘easy’ decision to play in Sugar Bowl

The trend of college football’s top NFL Draft prospects declaring for the draft and forgoing their bowl game is one that Alabama quarterback Bryce Young is not following, as he’s decided to play in the Crimson Tide’s Sugar Bowl matchup versus Kansas State on December 31. Young recently spoke about his decision and why he chose to play in his final game for Alabama.

“I wanted to finish with my teammates this season. Again there’s been a lot of work, a lot that’s gone into this year. And I just get another chance to play with my brothers. That’s really how I look at it,” Young said. “This is a great opportunity for us as a team, for me, for all of us.”

Young is regarded by many as the top quarterback, if not the top overall, prospect of the 2023 NFL Draft. The former Heisman Trophy winner has thrown for 8,035 yards and 75 touchdown passes in his career. He has accomplished plenty at Alabama and is looking forward to accomplishing more at the next level. However, he wants to finish what he started with his teammates in their season finale.

“It’s been about accountability, about making sure that we’re holding ourselves to our standard. And that’s words we all live by, that I live by. So for me it was easy, it’s another opportunity to go out there and play with my brothers. So again, I’m grateful for the chance that we have, for the opportunity we all have individuals and as a team. This is a huge opportunity,” Young said.

“This is a big game to play against a really really good team. We have a lot we want to prove to ourselves, there’s a lot we want to accomplish as a team. I’m just happy to get another chance to play with my guys,” Young said.
