Bryce Young: Jameson Williams, John Metchie have been crucial to quarterback's success
Alabama’s offense has been led by two of the best quarterbacks in recent memory over the past few years in Mac Jones and Tua Tagovailoa. The wide receiving core has been even better, producing four first-rounders.
Nothing has changed during the 2021 season. Former five-star quarterback Bryce Young has stepped in and carried the Crimson Tide offense. Working with him has been wide receivers John Metchie and Jameson Williams.
Heading into Iron Bowl week, Young was asked what it meant to be working with the two wideouts. He said everything he does becomes easier but there is still potential to be better.
“(John) Metchie and J-Mo (Jameson Williams) have been playing really well,” Young said on Monday. “They’ve been playing well all year. A lot of the stuff they do well might not show up on the stat sheet but they’ve really been consistent all year. In practice, you see how it translates because of how hard they both work in practice. Having weapons like that makes my job a lot easier. Definitely fun to have those guys out there and we’re all just improving and getting better and still working to maximize our potential as an offense.
Metchie and Williams are Alabama’s two leading receivers this season, totaling 2113 yards and 20 touchdowns. The two make up for nearly 60% of Young’s passing yards and 52.6% of his touchdowns.

Will Anderson says Bryce Young should get Heisman consideration
Young was not the only Alabama player who had the opportunity to praise his teammates on Monday. Edge rusher Will Anderson has been campaigning for his quarterback to be in the Heisman Trophy race all season.
After a record-breaking performance against Arkansas, Anderson’s case is only getting stronger. He said Young is a talented player and made sure to get his point across.
“The first time I met Bryce at All-American, I knew he was going to be a Heisman contender,” Anderson told reporters. “Bryce is very smart. I’m pretty sure you guys can see on the field, but I’ve classes with Bryce [and] everything. Bryce is a smart person, and his ability on the football field is even more surprising.
“He’s very smart on the field, the numbers that he’s putting up, the stats he’s had this year, how he handled everything, especially last year. I feel like he’s a great person on and off the field and he’s very, very, very, very, very, very talented.”
