Bryce Young is making history at quarterback for Alabama. After having big shoes to fill following Mac Jones, the 2021 Heisman Trophy recipient is making it an even greater task to eventually follow him. When the time comes, it looks like Young will be following by star recruit Ty Simpson.
The five star quarterback made it official on National Signing Day, and he figures to be the heir to the throne. When Young enters the NFL Draft when he’s eligible, it’ll be Simpson who steps in and attempts to keep the wheel turning.
Earlier this week, Young explained his first impressions of Simpson in a press conference.
“I got to know him pretty well,” started Young. “He was here throughout recruiting a good amount. It’s good — you build a relationship with a guy just from talking. Then, when you see them on the field and you guys are doing the same things in the same meeting rooms — that makes all the difference.
“Seeing how attentive he is in meetings, he’s really trying to stick on it. Everything OB (Bill O’Brein) is saying in meetings. He’s talked to me, he’s talked to other guys about how we see things. For a young guy that’s curious, wants to learn — that’s always a great sign.”

Evidently, Young believes Simpson has the mental makeup to succeed at Alabama. The star recruit has been a sponge while visiting Tuscaloosa — soaking up all the knowledge he can to get a head start on success.
Young on Simpson: ‘He has all the potential in the world.’
Moreover, Young believes the ability of Simpson throwing the football as well. Even though Alabama is ramping up intensity for the College Football Playoff, Simpson hasn’t been out of place.
“You can tell he’s a natural thrower,” stated Young. “He’s made some really good throws. Even early. That’s not easy when you’re thrust straight in coming from high school. You’re thrusts into us in playoff practice mode at the end of the season — you’re kind of just thrust in and taking some reps. He’s made some good throws.
“He has all the potential in the world, and we’re all excited to see him grow and develop.”
Bryce Young could pass the baton Ty Simpson when the time comes to move on to greener pastures. As you can see, the Heisman winner believes he’ll be leaving Alabama in good hands if that’s the case.
