Nick Saban provides Bryce Young injury update on Monday before showdown with Tennessee
Alabama coach Nick Saban provided a Bryce Young injury update ahead of his team’s clash with No. 6 Tennessee in one of the top matchups in college football so far, now midway through the 2022 season.
The 2021 Heisman Trophy winner’s status remains fluid as he continues to recover from an AC sprain in his throwing shoulder.
“Bryce is getting re-evaluated today. I don’t really know much,” Saban said. “I haven’t talked to Doc since he did that. Hopefully we’re going to try to get him ready to play this week. But this is something that nobody can predict how quickly this is going to give him an opportunity to go out and do what he needs to do.”
Young left a 49-26 win over Arkansas on Oct. 1 in the second quarter after experiencing discomfort in his throwing shoulder following a third-down incompletion.
He was evaluated on the sidelines in the team’s medical tent and did not return to action, replaced by backup quarterback Jalen Milroe. Young was also held out of the team’s 24-20 win over Texas A&M this weekend.

Alabama is hopeful to get him back against Tennessee, but his status remains unclear.
“We’ll see as the week progresses, but I don’t have an update much more than that,” Saban said.
Bryce Young injury status remains day to day
With Young’s status day to day as he recovers, the Crimson Tide will continue preparing Milroe in case he is needed against the Volunteers.
The redshirt freshman did enough to lead Alabama to the win over Texas A&M this weekend, but there’s plenty to work on. Milroe finished the game 12-of-19 passing for 111 yards with three touchdowns and one interception, also adding 17 carries for 83 yards.
While Young is capable of running in his own right, Alabama’s offense hasn’t relied nearly as heavily on his legs as it has Milroe’s when he’s in command.
Through the first six games of the season Milroe ranks third on the team in rushing, having logged 29 carries for 246 yards and a touchdown. The bulk of that total has come in the last two weeks, with Milroe running only six times before the Arkansas contest.
