Alabama‘s dominant week 1 performance against Utah State allowed them to play some of their younger roster talent, including redshirt freshman quarterback Jalen Milroe. Milroe led four drives for the Crimson Tide, and teammate Bryce Young spoke about his play and development over the course of the year.

“Yeah you can tell he’s a lot more comfortable back there making checks, he’s getting through his progressions, knowing where to go with the ball, making good decisions,” Young said. “Just seeing how much, like you said, he’s grown and progressed throughout from watching him all last year and obviously he’s a lot more comfortable in the offense now, a lot more in command, a lot more in control.”

Milroe threw one interception on deep pass attempt, but aside from that was efficient, completing eight of his ten pass attempts, including a 17-yard touchdown pass on a screen pass to Jase McClellan.

Young elaborated on Milroe’s progression and told the media about what we don’t always get to see regarding his development as a quarterback.

“And then not everyone gets to see, you just get to see the Saturdays, but throughout the week he’s working really hard. He’s understanding things a lot better in the meeting room, you get to hear how he sees things and he’s processing things super quickly. So I’m super excited for him and the development he’s had throughout his tenure here,” Young said.

The Crimson Tide definitely have their quarterback of the present in Young, but it will be interesting to see who becomes their quarterback of the future next season between Milroe and a pool of talented freshmen.

Young reflected on his recruitment from the Longhorns and spoke about their upcoming marquee matchup.

“Yeah I was recruited by University of Texas back when I was still in high school and I visited and again we have a ton of respect for them as a program for the coaching staff, for the players. We understand again the challenge that it’s gonna be, so from there you cut on the film, you know about that program, we know what it takes,” Young said.

If you cut on the film of Young from his last game, you’d see an absolutely dominant performance out of him, as he threw for 195 yards and 5 touchdown passes along with 100 rushing yards and a touchdown on the ground before being pulled early in the third quarter of their game versus Utah State.

The Crimson Tide routed the Aggies in a 55-0 victory, but the Longhorns are coming off of a 50-point outing themselves, as they took care of business in their opening game versus Louisiana-Monroe winning 52-10.

“We know it’s going to take everything from us, so it’s on us to make sure we’re the most prepared we can be, put ourselves in the best circumstance from preparation this week and we’ll try to execute to the best of our ability,” Young said.
