Bryce Young previews future of Alabama QB room, featuring Jalen Milroe, Ty Simpson
Alabama quarterback Bryce Young has one last game in a Crimson Tide uniform in the Sugar Bowl, but the future of the Alabama quarterback room has great promise, according to Young. Speaking with the media this week, Young did not hold back hyping up his backups Jalen Milroe and Ty Simpson.
“Yeah, I mean, you know, we pride ourselves in having the best and making sure that we’re the best,” Young said. “We take a lot of pride in that in the quarterback room. We pride ourselves on being the best in the country and pushing ourselves and holding ourselves to that standard. And, you know, for me being in the room, everybody’s pushed me to be better. I feel like we’ve all pushed each other, we’ve all elevated each other and challenged each other. We all hold each other accountable.”
Young was injured earlier this year and Milroe filled in during a win over Texas A&M and showed promise. Milroe is a redshirt freshman while Simpson is a true freshman.
“And you know, just to see the growth like you said from Jalen and Ty, it’s been a lot of growth in the in the meeting room,” Young said. “A lot of growth when it comes to reading and processing and then … I’ve been able to see firsthand just how much better they’ve both been since they first stepped foot here on campus. So, you know, I have a tremendous amount of confidence in everyone in that room. And, you know, just to really see the progression …
“I’m blessed to be a part of that room and those are guys that I’m really close with as well. So you know, I have all the confidence in the world in those guys.”

Milroe’s been in and out of the lineup in specific packages this season, playing seven games this year. He is 31-of-52 passing for 297 yards, five touchdowns, three interceptions, a 59.6% completion percentage, 263 rushing yards and one rushing touchdown.
Simpson completed four-of-five passes for 35 yards in three separate game appearances.
Young did not duplicate his Heisman Trophy-winning stats from last year but still had a solid season and could very well be the No. 1 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. This year, Young has 3,007 yards, 27 touchdowns, five interceptions and a 64.1% completion percentage.
In his career, Young has 8,035 yards, 75 touchdowns, 12 interceptions and a 65.5% completion percentage.
