Coming into the season, Bryce Young and the Alabama Crimson Tide were seen as one of the clear national championship contenders. Meanwhile, the Texas Longhorns, as always, brought in a lot of talent and potential into the 2022 season. With a key Week 2 matchup between the two teams, it might’ve been easy to overlook their opening weeks, but both teams won easily in the end.

While speaking to the media, Alabama quarterback Bryce Young provided his initial thoughts on what will be a top-25 matchup between the two historic programs.

“For us, we got a 24-hour rule,” Bryce Young said. “So, you know, we get to enjoy this one tonight, and then, you know, tomorrow is when we watch the film. We learn to see what we can improve on from the night and then, you know, we cut the film on after that and then we start preparing for Texas.”

“We have a lot of respect for them as a program–them and their team. We know that we’re going to a hostile environment. So, you know, we’re gonna learn all that we can throughout the week. We’re gonna study, we’re gonna prepare. But we have a tremendous amount of respect for them. We know it’s gonna take everything. So we have to work hard throughout the week to put ourselves in the best circumstance to be successful.”

This game represents one of the most intriguing quarterback matchups of the season, between Bryce Young and Quinn Ewers. That’s last season’s Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback up against one of the most exciting prospects in the game. On top of that, Steve Sarkisian landed the Texas job after working as offensive coordinator for Nick Saban at Alabama.

Bryce Young the runner

Alabama’s win over Utah State saw quarterback Bryce Young break out as a runner, instead of just being a passing threat. He had better than 100 yards on the ground and a touchdown. He explained what happened after the game.

“I just try to do whatever is best for the team with whatever the defense gives me. But, yeah, that’s definitely interesting. I don’t know,” said Bryce Young. “That definitely wasn’t something I was planning but, for me, it’s just taking what the defense gives me. That’s definitely a big theme for us offensively.”

“Today that was just what was available. It’s cool but, again, I’m just trying to do whatever I can to move the ball and to do what’s best for the offense. That’s just what happened to be what it was tonight.”
