Bryce Young reacts to Auburn players mocking Alabama celebration
Alabama quarterback Bryce Young didn’t take too kindly to Auburn players mocking the Crimson Tide receiver Jameson Williams‘ signature touchdown celebration. In a postgame interview following Alabama’s four-overtime win in the Iron Bowl, Young had a few words for the Tigers.
“We saw it,” he said. “It was noted. But I think Metch said something about ‘Roll Tide,’ so I’m gonna double down on that.”
Alabama wide receiver Jameson Williams has struck the same Karate Kid pose after most every touchdown this season. However, earlier in Saturday’s contest, Williams — who was lining up on special teams — was ejected after he was flagged for targeting, creating a sizable hole in Alabama’s offense. After Williams’ ejection, Auburn mocked the Crimson Tide, using the same Karate Kid celebration twice.
First, Auburn safety Smoke Monday pulled out the celebration, mocking Alabama and Williams, midway through the second quarter.
After Monday got his turn, Auburn’s punter Oscar Chapman got in on the fun. Chapman executed on one of his several textbook punts on the night, pinning Alabama deep in its own side of the field, and struck the Karate Kid pose himself.
Ultimately, Bryce Young and Alabama had the last laugh against Auburn, as Metchie avenged his ejected teammate with the same Karate Kid celebration after ending the game. Metchie’s game-winning two-point conversion put the nail in the coffin and finished his terrific night with 13 receptions for 150 receiving yards.
The Crimson Tide finished 11-1 with the victory and now prepare themselves for a matchup against Georgia in the SEC Championship Game. Although nothing is certain, the general feeling is that Saturday’s Iron Bowl win secured Bama’s spot in the College Football Playoff. Still, no two-loss teams have ever made the final four, casting doubt should they fall to the Bulldogs.

Alabama entered this week at No. 3 in the committee’s rankings, but will likely move to No. 2 following an Ohio State loss to Michigan. They improved to 48-37-1 overall against Auburn with the win.
While trailing 10-3 with just over 90 seconds remaining, Alabama quarterback Bryce Young led a 12-play, 97-yard touchdown drive, which culminated in a 28-yard score to Ja’Corey Brooks. That sent the game to overtime at 10-10.
Both teams scored touchdowns in the first overtime, kicked field goals in the second overtime, and covered 2-point plays in the third overtime. Auburn could not convert in the fourth period, and Alabama did.
Alabama heads to Atlanta next weekend to face 12-0 Georgia with an SEC championship on the line. They are still firmly in the College Football Playoff conversation if they can beat the Bulldogs. If not, expect plenty of debate leading up to announcement of the final CFP rankings.
Kickoff for the SEC Championship Game is set for 4 p.m. ET next Saturday at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
