Bryce Young reveals what being first Alabama QB to win Heisman would mean
It’s officially awards season across the college football landscape, and there’s one player who’s been racking up accolades: Alabama quarterback Bryce Young. After already being named the SEC Offensive Player of the Year, a First Team All-SEC selection and the Crimson Tide’s team Most Valuable Player and permanent team captain, Young has the chance to add another honor – a very prestigious one – to his resume this weekend.
A finalist – and the frontrunner – for the Heisman Trophy, Young’s name could very well be announced as the winner of the legendary award on Saturday night during the Heisman Trophy ceremony in New York. The ceremony is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. ET and will be broadcast on ESPN.
Heading into what could be a big weekend for Young, he met with the media Tuesday to share his thoughts on what it would mean to be the first Alabama quarterback to win the Heisman Trophy.
“Obviously it would be a huge blessing to follow the great quarterbacks that we’ve had, and to have this opportunity is a huge blessing and it’s something I don’t take for granted,” Young said. “But I also understand the reason behind it – and that’s us as a unit, us as a team. It takes all my teammates, it takes all the coaches, it takes this environment, just everybody that’s involved to go after an accomplishment like this. I’m truly grateful to be in the position that I am.”

Young, who’s thrown for 4,322 yards and 43 touchdowns compared to just four interceptions this season, has guided the Tide to a 12-1 overall mark and the No. 1 ranking in the College Football Playoff. The former On3 Consensus five-star quarterback and his squad will face off against No. 4 Cincinnati on Dec. 31 in the Cotton Bowl semifinal at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
Young ‘looking forward’ to attending Heisman Trophy ceremony
Whether he wins the prestigious award or not, Alabama quarterback Bryce Young says it will be an honor just to be in the room in New York during the Heisman Trophy ceremony on Saturday night.
“I’m looking forward to the experience,” Young said. “I’m looking forward to being around everyone’s who’s up there, being around the other guys that are up there. The whole experience in itself, that’s something that’s invaluable and a blessing to have. Just the opportunity to go to New York … that’s something I’m going to hold onto for the rest of my life. I’m super excited.”
