No. 1 Alabama is getting ready to kick off in another conference game against Texas A&M, one that was among the most anticipated games this season after an offseason spat between Nick Saban and Jimbo Fisher. But the more pressing storyline now is the status of Bryce Young following a shoulder injury he sustained in a win over Arkansas last weekend.

The Crimson Tide have yet to announce a starting quarterback for the game, with Young considered a game-time decision with an AC sprain in his throwing shoulder.

Young was getting loose with the rest of the quarterbacks prior to the game, which kicks off at 8 p.m. ET on CBS.

Bryce Young, Jalen Milroe starting decision looming

Alabama’s decision will likely boil down to Young’s comfort level throwing in pregame warmups, as coach Nick Saban stressed the main concern was overuse of his shoulder.

“The way we treated this from a medical standpoint is overuse would really set him back, so the longer we can go without him doing a whole lot of throwing, the better off we are,” Saban said on Hey Coach and the Nick Saban Show Thursday night. “Even though he has done some, the better off we are in terms of the healing process. We’ll see how it goes.”

The Bryce Young injury forced him out of last weekend’s game with Alabama up 14-0 early in the second quarter. Backup quarterback Jalen Milroe promptly entered and led Alabama to two touchdown drives before halftime to extend the lead to 28-0.

Arkansas battled back to make it 28-23 before Milroe and a strong Alabama running game closed things out in a 49-26 win.

Milroe finished the game 4-of-9 passing for 65 yards and a touchdown. He did not throw an interception, while also making significant contributions with his legs. Milroe ran six times for 91 yards and a score against the Razorbacks.

Should he start on Saturday night it would be his first career start.
