On the first offensive possession of the day against Missouri, Alabama is already dealing with an injury. Wide receiver Cole Adams went down and was seen holding his right leg. Trainers came onto the field and Adams was taken to the medical tent but needed help to get over there.

“Cole Adams is being helped to the medical tent by trainers,” Charlie Potter of On3’s BOL said via X. “He’s not putting any pressure on his left leg.”

Shortly thereafter, a troubling update was provided on Adams. He was already heading back to the Alabama locker room on a cart, with a boot seen on the leg. Not great news for the second-year player who has already dealt with injuries this season.

“Alabama WR Cole Adams, with a towel over his head, being carted to the locker room,” Mike Rodak said via X. “He has a boot on his left leg already.”

Today was the seventh game Adams has played in this season, having six receptions for 94 yards. When getting the ball in Adams’ hands, the results have been explosive but it’s not very often. Alabama has struggled in the passing game with Jalen Milroe in recent weeks.

Adams does more for the Crimson Tide than just play wide receiver, though. He is the usual punt returner with 11 returns for a total of 58 yards.

In the short term, it appears as if Alabama will have to play without Adams moving forward. Freshman defensive back Jaylen Mbakwe has been back there returning punts already while other receivers will now get in the rotation.

Following the game, there will be questions for head coach Kalen DeBoer for the long-term future of Adams. There is a bye week upcoming before heading to Baton Rouge to face LSU on Nov. 9.
