Craig Young shares story of Bryce Young's offseason commitment despite Heisman, accomplishments
While speaking during an appearance on On3’s LeverUP NIL Show, Craig Young detailed the incredible work Bryce Young put in this offseason. Alabama’s reigning Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback was so committed to his offseason growth and workout schedule, that he skipped on a family vacation to Hawai’i in order to not miss any workouts.
Craig Young on Bryce Young’s offseason commitment
After Bryce Young finished his first season as the Crimson Tide starting quarterback with incredible individual success, Alabama’s 33-18 loss to Georgia in the national championship game might have helped keep him focused on a level above his competition. As he finished his recent in-depth conversation with Shannon Terry and Jim Cavale, Craig Young shared a personal story of just how committed Bryce is to his development.
“What I’m so proud of for him, was the way he attacked this offseason,” Craig Young said. “And obviously he’s always been a hard worker, and he’s always been focused and dedicated. But I’m gonna tell you guys a little story, he’s probably gonna be mad that I tell you the story. So, during that little break we kinda scheduled a family — it was like a surprise — we scheduled this family vacation. We were gonna go to Hawai’i with his time, we were gonna do something just to relax as a family. And Bryce was like — ‘Love you guys. I appreciate it. [I’m] not going.’

“I was like, what do you mean you’re not going? It’s just a couple days. He’s like, ‘Well, I have my quarterback coach, I have a workout, I have this … and I’m not gonna miss a day in workout this offseason. So you guys go ahead, send me pictures, I’m staying,'” Craig Young recalled.
“And that is how he attacked this offseason. We talked about NIL, we talked about he has some resources and all that stuff — [he wasn’t interested in] none of that. All he did was dedicate himself to training in the offseason. And also, he also dedicated himself to being more of a vocal leader. But vocal in the way, not yelling, but more vocally where you’re really communicating the message. You’re really communicating the expectations and holding the players accountable and also holding himself accountable,” the elder Young continued.

“And then just the way he threw the ball this offseason and gained some weight and all those things. So, he’s done everything that he could do to get himself ready for this offseason. So I’m very, very excited. I can’t wait and I think the fans — Alabama supporters — are gonna be very excited with the season.”
Bryce Young burst onto the national scene last season during his Heisman push, posting incredible numbers alongside his ability to win football games when it mattered. Young finished his sophomore year with team-record 4,872 passing yards, 47 touchdowns and just seven interceptions in 2021 — as well as leading the Crimson Tide to an SEC title and a national championship game appearance.
Young’s brand has ballooned from his efforts, making him the highest-rated college athlete in the On3 NIL 100. As of the start of the 2022 season, Young’s On3 NIL Valuation is a massive $3.2 million.
