Report: Creighton to host Alabama in 2023-24 as part of home-and-home series
Creighton will host Alabama basketball during the 2023-24 season as part of a home-and-home series, according to Joel Lorenzi of OWH News.
“Source tells me that Creighton will host Alabama this upcoming season as part of a home-and-home series,” Lorenzi wrote on Twitter.
Creighton finished off a solid season in 2023, making the Elite Eight only for the second time in school history and the first time since 1941.
Alabama was the No. 1 overall seed in the tournament this past March. However, Alabama made it only to the Sweet 16 after winning the SEC.
The Crimson Tide are 0-2 all time against Creighton in the two’s history, with both matchups coming in the postseason.
More on Alabama-Creighton rivalry
There is a bit of a “rivalry,” so to speak, between the two schools. But it’s all social media fodder stemming from a 2012 matchup in the NCAA Tournament. Played up by Alabama superfans Hunter Johnson and Luke Ratliff, it has picked up steam and become a running joke within the fanbase.
In the second round of the 2012 NCAA Tournament, Creighton took down Alabama 58-57 with a controversial ending. Doug McDermott led all scorers with 16 points in the slugfest.
Down 50-43, Creighton finally found a way to score and blew open the lead to seven after a 14-0 spurt. But the Crimson Tide closed the gap in the end.

Down by one, it looked like there was a foul on a would-be game-winner for Alabama. Creighton was not called for any type of illegal play and the Blue Jays hung on for a Sweet 16 berth that season.
It’s easy to see why Alabama fans might still be upset about this game over a decade later. Now, the schools can face face off in what should be an anticipated contest.
Since they’ve only met twice, it’ll be a sweet sight for college basketball fans.
Nate Oats calls season one of the most memorable in Alabama history
It was a tough end, but Alabama was one of the best teams all year long. That type of build by Nate Oats should make Alabama-Creighton very exciting next season.
“I’ll say it’s one of the most memorable seasons ever,” Oats said. “It’s not easy to win the regular season, the SEC tournament in the same year and make a Sweet 16 run.
“It’s a great group that really loves each other. I mean, they’re going to be close for life, most of them. You know, I love the group, they love each other, and it’s just really disappointing that it’s ending early. But I think it’s one of the most memorable seasons in Alabama history, and they can walk out of here with their heads up.”
