Dan Mullen names Jalen Milroe, Ryan Williams best offensive duo so far
When it comes to electrifying the college football world, it’s tough to find a duo up that can match Alabama signal-caller Jalen Milroe and star freshman receiver Ryan Williams.
The tandem has delivered play after play, in the most pressurized of moments, including in their stunning 41-34 win over the Georgia Bulldogs. That game will go down as one of the greatest in college football history. And electrifying plays from Milroe and Williams are a big part of that.
And in the Friday version of “Mullen It Over” with ESPN analyst Dan Mullen, he decided to tab the tandem as the best offensive duo in college football so far.
“It’s always a good problem to have. Right? When you have that much talent. But the playmakers in the biggest moments so far this year have been Jalen Milroe to Ryan Williams,” Mullen began in his segment on Friday evening.
“In the big game, at the big moment. Against Georgia, they need a play. What do they do? They go deep to Ryan Williams. Last week, even in the loss to Vanderbilt, when they needed a play, they went to Ryan Williams. He finds a way to get into the end zone. And he’s done it in big games. I need to see it out of Ole Miss in conference play. And Ohio State’s gonna have their opportunity this week as their tough schedule gets tougher. But the most impressive duo so far are those two at Alabama,” Mullen said.
Ryan Williams not only made an incredible circus catch against Georgia, but he made what many people are calling play of the year in the 2024 college football season so far. The superstar freshman hauled in a 75-yard touchdown catch that will never be forgotten.
Writing about it simply doesn’t do it justice.
With the pressure rising in the final minutes of the game and the Crimson Tide needing a play, Williams managed to find freon coursing through his veins. He’s crafted a highlight reel that the sport hasn’t seen in quite some time from a freshman wide receiver.

And the play in the Georgia-Alabama game will certainly rest in its rightful place as one of the all-time great plays the sport has ever seen.
Through his first five games in college football, Williams has hauled in 19 catches for 544 yards and six touchdowns. Simply put, he’s must-see TV every time he sets foot on a football field.
Jalen Milroe has delivered time and time again this season for the Crimson Tide, finding his best stuff when his team has needed him the most. He delivered a performance for the ages against Georgia, finishing with 491 all-purpose yards and four total touchdowns, while tossing in one interception.
For the season, he’s completed 73.4% of his passes for 1,274 yards, while tossing in 11 touchdowns and two interceptions. As a runner, he has 59 carries for 283 yards and nine touchdowns, showcasing his electrifying playmaking ability with his feet.
Next up, Milroe, Williams, and the Crimson Tide offensive attack will be tested greatly. They’ll face off against South Carolina, Dylan Stewart, and one of the best pass rushes in the country. It promises to be one of many amazing matchups on a stacked October 12th slate.
