Alabama F Derrion Reid will be out again this week despite getting positive feedback on the injury to his hamstring.

Nate Oats began his press conference on Monday with an update on Reid. He said that Reid went up to Birmingham to get an evaluation on his right leg but will still be out come tip-off tomorrow for the Crimson Tide in another ranked matchup with this one against No. 24 Mississippi State.

“So, uh, just to answer before it gets asked, Derrion went up to Birmingham, got evaluated by Doctor Cain on his leg,” said Oats. “Not going to go tomorrow. So, he’s out but they thought he looked good so he’s coming along.”

Reid will be out on the injury report again and, with that, miss his tenth game tomorrow of his freshman year at ‘Bama. He missed four outings over two weeks with the injury initially before returning for the next three. However, he has since missed a pair more this past week for the Tide because of a setback.

Over his 18 games, Reid, their top-rated prospect from this year’s class, has averaged 7.1 points and 3.2 rebounds in 16 minutes per game. That has him tied for seventh in scoring and sixth in rebounding on the team.

Reid has missed just over half of the conference games, and will miss at least one, if not a few, more, for Alabama. He’s trending in a decent direction, though, based on the latest from the doctors and since shared by Oats.

“He’s improving, progressing, getting better and he’ll be evaluated week-to-week,” Oats said.
