The 6-foot-2, 200-pounder led Westview to a 13-1 record and a berth in the Class 2A state championship. Simpson completed 193 of 305 passes for 2,827 yards and 41 touchdowns through 14 games. He also rushed for 862 yards and 11 touchdowns on 92 carries.
He chose the Crimson Tide in February over offers from Texas A&M, Georgia, Penn State, Notre Dame and others. Simpson is one of three five-star prospects currently committed to Alabama, joining EDGE Jeremiah Alexander and running back Emmanuel Henderson. Alabama’s class ranks No. 3 nationally behind Texas A&M and Georgia, according to the On3 Consensus Team Recruiting Rankings.
Ty Simpson Scouting Summary
On3 Director of Scouting and Rankings Charles Power wrote this about Simpson:
Versatile, well-rounded quarterback with the ability to stress defenses as a passer and run threat. Possesses a creative, backyard style of play with considerable experience making improvisational plays. Throws from a wide base with above average arm strength. Has continued to progress as an in-structure quarterback and is among the more accurate passers in the 2022 cycle. Lower body twitch and footwork also makes Simpson one of the more mobile signal callers in his cycle. Picks up yards on scrambles and designed runs. Smaller in size and older than most fellow top 2022 quarterbacks. Has seen an uptick in production as a senior, putting together one of the best statistical seasons among his contemporaries.
