Five-star cornerback Desmond Ricks of Chesapeake (VA) IMG Academy announced his commitment to Alabama Thursday evening.
The 6-foot-1, 180 pounder chose the Crimson Tide over LSU and Florida.
Ricks joins coach Saban and the Crimson Tide’s number 1 ranked class in the 2023 team rankings. He is accompanied by Caleb Downs, Kadyn Proctor, and others.
Alabama now holds a total of seven five-stars in the 2023 class– the most five star commitments in the nation.
The IMG Academy cornerback was formerly ranked as the No. 2 player in the 2024 class, before announcing his reclassification earlier this fall.

Desmond Ricks Scouting Summary
“Big, athletic corner who stars on one of the most talented defenses in high school football,” On3’s Director of Scouting Charles Power wrote. “Has good stature for the position at over 6-foot-1 and 175 pounds heading into his junior season. Registers as a strong athlete in the combine setting. Was a key player on IMG Academy’s talented defense as a sophomore in addition to seeing significant time as a freshman. A smooth mover with advanced technical ability. Battle-tested against top wide receivers both in practice at IMG and in playing a national schedule throughout the fall.”
Ricks ranks as the No. 20 player in the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that accounts for all four major recruiting sites. He also tabs in as the No. 2 cornerback and the No. 5 player in the state of Florida.
