Former West Virginia TE Jack Sammarco commits to Alabama

Former West Virginia tight end Jack Sammarco committed to Alabama out of the NCAA transfer portal, per On3’s Hayes Fawcett. He spent just one season with the Mountaineers.
Sammarco played sparingly, mostly on special teams, in 2024. He actually had one kick return for five yards this season. He also reeled in one pass for four yards.
As a member of the Class of 2024, Sammarco was a three-star recruit out of Cincinnati (Ohio) Walnut Hills, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He was the No. 57 overall prospect in the state, the No. 83 tight end in the class and the No. 1,440 overall prospect in the class.

Sammarco could find new life at Alabama. As far as the Crimson Tide QB competition and who will throw him the football, that’s undecided.

Offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb revealed the latest earlier this month. Currently, it’s a three-way competition between Ty Simpson, Austin Mack and Keelon Russell.
“If we’re playing a football game tomorrow, Ty Simpson would start,” Grubb said. Still, nothing has been decided quite yet.
With that in mind, Paul Finebaum joined SportsCenter to shed some light on the competition. He believes it’s essential for the Crimson Tide to find their quarterback and quick, as there’s a ton riding on this coming season for the program.
“I think the most interesting one is in Tuscaloosa,” Finebaum said, evaluation quarterback competitions around the nation on Saturday. “Alabama is trying to figure out who takes Jalen Milroe’s place. You know the history on Alabama quarterbacks in recent years. They’ve had [Tua] Tagovailoa. They’ve had Mac Jones. They’ve had Bryce Young. Last year they had Milroe. They’ve all been candidates for the Heisman. Right now, they don’t know.
“Ty Simpson has been around a couple of years. Austin Mack came over from Washington with the head coach Kalen DeBoer. The one everybody is excited about is Keelon Russell. He’s a brand new freshman. He’s a five-star. But the problem is we don’t know, and that’s not a good sign for Alabama.
