Four-star cornerback Jameer Grimsley of Tampa (FL) Catholic High announced his commitment to Alabama Saturday evening.

The 6-foot-3, 185 pounder chose the Crimson Tide over Michigan and Florida.

Grimsley on why he chose Alabama

“What really set them apart for me was just their consistency throughout the years as a program, head coach Nick Saban being hands on with the DBs and how they’ve had long corners like me get drafted in the first round.  They know how to bring out my full potential and they are always competing for the natty.  To top it off it just makes sense that Saban is a defensive minded coach and they’ve had plenty of corners get drafted in the first round.”

Relationship with coaching staff + their plan for him

“I’m the closest with coach T-rob. That’s the one I talk to the most. They see me as an outside corner that has the ability to give receivers trouble.  They run an NFL scheme so they believe I can handle the different coverages because they need dudes that can cover.”

The Sunshine State defensive back joins coach Nick Saban and the Crimson Tide’s top 5 class in the 2024 team rankings. He is accompanied by five-star quarterback Julian Sayin, five-star athlete Jaylen Mbakwe, and others.

Jameer Grimsley Scouting Summary

“Physically-gifted defensive back with one of the best combinations of length, athleticism and ball skills among 2024 cornerback prospects. A taller corner, measuring in at around 6-foot-1.5, 185 pounds prior to his senior season. Has elite length with arms that have measured well over 33 inches, to go with 10-inch hands. Turns in strong marks as a sprinter in track and field, running 10.94 seconds in the 100 meter and 21.89 second in the 200 meters as a junior. Plays on both sides of the ball as a receiver and cornerback/safety. Shows an easy, long stride in the open field. Ball skills register on the high end among cornerback prospects given his experience on offense. Has the ability to win contested catches as a receiver. Tracks and locates the football. Not afraid to lower his shoulder and strike pass catchers. Finished his junior season with 25 catches for 356 yards and three touchdowns. Transferred from Bloomingdale High School to Tampa Catholic prior to his senior season. More of a size and skill set projection and will need to ratchet up his production as a senior.”
