4-star wide receiver Shazz Preston visited by Alabama assistant
St. James (La.) wide receiver Shazz Preston is one of the most coveted prospects still uncommitted in the 2022 class. And the major contenders are making a late push for him. Alabama sent defensive coordinator Pete Golding to Louisiana to visit Preston on Monday night, and his father Shawn shared photos on Twitter Tuesday morning.
Shazz Preston is the No. 61 prospect in the 2022 class, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He ranks as the No. 7 wide receiver nationally and the No. 4 prospect in Louisiana.
The 6-foot, 190-pounder has drawn offers from the Crimson Tide, LSU, Texas, Georgia, USC and others. He has yet to officially visit LSU but unofficially visited Baton Rouge three times. Both official visits that Preston has taken came in June — one to Texas and one to USC. Preston’s last unofficial visit came in early November, when he traveled to Tuscaloosa to see the Crimson Tide.
He is expected to take an official visit to Alabama this weekend alongside a loaded group of visitors.
Shazz Preston Scouting Summary
On3 Director of Scouting Charles Power wrote the following on Shazz Preston as a prospect:
One of the best receivers in high-point situations in the 2022 cycle. Has tremendous feel, timing and body control when the ball is in the air. Competes for the ball in the air and in traffic. Plucks the football with his arms extended, using his 9.5-inch hands. Has the foot quickness to create separation out of cuts. Flashes high-end start-stop ability after the catch. His burst off the line can close gaps against off coverage. Has excellent change of direction at 6-foot, 190 pounds. Quicker than fast, but possesses adequate speed. Plays faster than he will time. Talent carries over to production on Friday nights.
