Greg Byrne gives timeline on Alabama's knowledge of Brandon Miller, Jaden Bradley whereabouts, cooperation with police on January shooting
In light of recent testimony regarding texts between Darius Miles and Brandon Miller amid last month’s shooting, more information is coming to light about how much Alabama knew in the immediate aftermath. That was something Crimson Tide athletic director Greg Byrne addressed head-on Wednesday.
Byrne appeared on the ESPN College GameDay podcast and confirmed the school knew Miller and Jaden Bradley were at the scene of the shooting, which killed Jamea Jonae Harris. Miller apparently received texts from Miles to come pick him up, which came out after police testified he drove the gun to the scene. Miller’s attorney said he didn’t know the gun was in the car and earlier in the interview, Byrne said he was told Miller was planning to pick Miles up.
Byrne said the university knew quickly neither Miller nor Bradley were considered suspects in the incident.
“From the get-go, we knew that Brandon and Jaden were both at the scene,” Byrne told Rece Davis and Pete Thamel. “We knew that they were cooperating and we were told early on that they were not suspects. That was the information that we had fairly quickly on that Sunday once the process began.”
Byrne also confirmed the school has worked with investigators as they work through the events of the Jan. 15 incident.

“Our legal team has had conversation, yes. … We continue to be told that Brandon and Jaden were at the scene, that they were cooperating and that they’re not suspects,” Byrne said. “That’s what we know at this time.”
Greg Byrne reveals new information he learned after police testimony regarding Brandon Miller, Darius Miles
Byrne said he didn’t know about those texts between Miller and Miles until the testimony. However, Byrne also learned more about how many texts Miller received. The star freshman expected to be Miles’ ride that evening.
“The new information that we learned yesterday was there had been some text messages exchanged with Brandon and Darius. That information was news to me,” Byrne said. “I had not been told that before. That was that information. And then, we were able to receive some information since then about the texts exchanged that has not been out there publicly.
“For instance, Darius had been asking Brandon to come pick him up for close to an hour. He was his ride that evening. Brandon was already on his way to pick up Darius when he received a text message from him that was reported in the media yesterday. I didn’t know that yesterday. I found that out today.”
