Alabama quarterback Bryce Young was named the winner of the Heisman Trophy on Saturday night. Young had a fantastic season in his first year as Alabama’s starting quarterback. In winning the prestigious award, Young becomes the first Alabama quarterback to ever win the Heisman.

Young shared a touching message after he became the first Alabama quarterback to win the Heisman. When asked about what kind of advice he has for kids being doubted, he said that the most important thing is to have belief in yourself.

“Yeah, I think it’s important to really focus on yourself and what you can control,” Young said after he won the Heisman. “If you feed off of others’ negativity, you have to understand whether you’re doing well, doing not so well, whatever stage in life you’re in, there’s going to be people who don’t believe in you, who doubt, who aren’t sending positivity, whatever it may be, and when you start to invest so much of your energy into something you can’t control, it gets hectic. It’s hard to be stable. It’s hard to fully maximize your potential.

“The most important thing you have to do is believe in yourself, find yourself, understand what motivates you, what you want to do, what you want to accomplish, and there’s no problem with maybe struggling or taking time to find that, but once you find that, you just have to invest everything in yourself, believe in yourself, and it’s important to not let others, whatever it may be, whether it’s whatever doubts that others may have, you have to do what you feel like is best and believe in yourself, and at the end of the day that’s who you’re going to have. You can always accomplish anything through God’s grace and hard work.”

Young’s Heisman win comes after an impressive year for Alabama

In Young’s Heisman-worthy campaign in his first year as Alabama’s quarterback, he led the Crimson Tide to a 12-1 record, an SEC Championship, and a top overall seed in the College Football Playoff.

Young has completed 68% of his passes this season for 4,322 yards, 43 touchdowns and just four interceptions. He also has three rushing touchdowns. In addition to the Heisman, Young has also won the Maxwell Award and was named the AP National Player of the Year.

By winning the Heisman, Young is the fourth Alabama player to bring home the award. He joins Mark Ingram (2009), Derrick Henry (2015), and DeVonta Smith (2020). Alabama now has consecutive Heisman wins.
