Report: Houston baseball to hire former Alabama assistant Matt Reida

Houston is set to hire former Alabama baseball assistant Matt Reida to its staff, D1Baseball’s Kendall Rogers reported Wednesday. He spent four total years on the staff in Tuscaloosa, including two as an assistant coach.
Reida played college baseball at Kentucky from 2011-14 and spent time in the Tampa Bay Rays organization before jumping into coaching. He got his first collegiate opportunity at Indiana in 2016 and spent two seasons with the Hoosiers before joining Xavier as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator. He then made his way to Alabama as a volunteer assistant coach from 2019-20 and after a brief stint as a volunteer assistant at Pitt in 2021, he returned to Tuscaloosa as an assistant coach.
Reida will be the third assistant at Houston, according to Rogers, as the Cougars make the transition from the transition from the American Athletic Conference to the Big 12. This past season, Houston went 36-23 overall and 17-6 in AAC play to finish second in the league.
Reida isn’t the only new coach joining Houston’s staff. Pitching coach Sean Kenny is also now on board after working at Georgia for the last seven years. The Cougars announced his addition last month just a couple weeks before it officially joined the Big 12.

Rob Vaughn adds Mike Morrison to new-look coaching staff at Alabama
As for Alabama, Rob Vaughn is officially taking over as head coach following a tumultuous 2023 season that included the firing of Brad Bohannon. Earlier this month, Mike Morrison joined his staff as the Crimson Tide’s third assistant. Morrison spent the last two seasons at Maryland as pitching coach and he becomes the latest addition to Vaughn’s staff. Jason Jackson remained on staff as associate head coach and Anthony Papio came aboard as an assistant coach.
“I’m thrilled to welcome Mike Morrison and his family to Alabama,” Vaughn said in a statement in the July 1 announcement. “Mo won a national championship at Coastal Carolina and brings a wealth of knowledge to Tuscaloosa from both the pitching and recruiting standpoint. He’s as relentless as it gets, and I couldn’t be more excited to have Mike, his wife, Jordan, and their son, Miles, join the Alabama Baseball Family.”
Morrison played college baseball at Coastal Carolina before getting his coaching start with the Chanticleers. He was on the staff when they won the College World Series and ended up joining Maryland in 2021.
