No. 2 Alabama led No. 20 Arkansas 28-7 at halftime, but the big news is the status of the injured Bryce Young, the 2021 Heisman Trophy winner at quarterback. Young was injured early in the second quarter.

He did not return prior to halftime, and coach Nick Saban provided a brief injury update just before heading into the locker room.

“Well he’s got a shoulder injury but I don’t know the extent of it, I don’t know how bad it is,” Saban told CBS sideline reporter Jenny Dell. “They worked on him inside, so I’ll probably see when we go in.”

Young suffered an apparent injury that caused him to enter the team’s medical tent on the sidelines in the second quarter, but it was unclear exactly what led to the injury. He was clearly in discomfort after coming off the field on a failed third-down attempt.

The star quarterback fired a pass over the middle to Traeshon Holden, but it was broken up as a pair of Arkansas defenders converged.

Holden was shaken up on the play, but Young appeared to have a relatively clean pocket as he unleashed the pass. By the time he got to the sideline, though, he was visibly frustrated.

Young threw his helmet down onto the ground before heading into the injury tent.

The CBS broadcast crew commented on Young’s injury but didn’t have any firm updates on the quarterback’s status prior to halftime.

Injured Bryce Young a major concern for Alabama

Backup quarterback Jalen Milroe did an excellent job stepping in for the injured Bryce Young in the second quarter, guiding the Crimson Tide to a pair of touchdown drives to extend the team’s lead to 28-0 before the Razorbacks added a late score before the break.

“Well if Bryce can’t play, Milroe is going to play,” Saban said at halftime.

Still, all eyes are on Young’s status going forward.

Young had no issues shredding Arkansas’ passing defense in the first half, connecting with Kobe Prentice on a 47-yard touchdown pass and also hooking up with freshman receiver Isaiah Bond on a 53-yard strike deep down the middle.

Prior to leaving the game due to injury at Arkansas, Young had gone 7-of-13 passing for 173 yards and a touchdown. He also threw one interception.
