Ja'Corey Brooks recalls memories of catch in Iron Bowl
Alabama wide receiver Ja’Corey Brooks inked his name in Iron Bowl history when he caught a pass from Bryce Young to tie the 2021 game against Auburn late in the fourth quarter. That game went into overtime, where Alabama eventually won. After that came the SEC Championship Game and the College Football Playoff, none of which would have been possible without that touchdown.
Now, Ja’Corey Brooks has recalled the memory of that catch. It started by going out and just executing on the play, not worrying about how big the moment was.
“I’m from Florida, so I didn’t like know how big the Iron Bowl was, you know. So, I just went out there and took it play by play. But, after I got to the sidelines, Jamo (Jameson Williams) telling me it was a great catch. But, during that play I just tried to execute and do my job,” explained Ja’Corey Brooks.
Ja’Corey Brooks also explained how he made the catch. Practice. In particular, he credited working with a jug machine. That repetition over time allowed him to be ready to make a difficult over the shoulder catch.

“Pretty much, when anybody sees me, they always say, ‘That was a great catch–from the Iron Bowl.’ So, you know, I’m guessing it’s that big. I’m still, like, shocked about it, but not really. You know. Really looking forward to this year and how this game’s gonna go.”
Ja’Corey Brooks has an improving relationship with Bryce Young
Bryce Young is one of college football’s top quarterbacks. The returning Heisman Trophy winner is expected to be a high NFL Draft pick. It’s important for Ja’Corey Brooks to be on the same page with Young if they’re going to have more connections like they did in the Iron Bowl.
“I feel like it’s improved a lot,” said Ja’Corey Brooks. “We still have more room for improvement, but we’re still getting better this offseason, and we’re taking it day by day.”
