Jahmyr Gibbs assesses his ability to catch passes, versatility on offense
As Alabama worked to replace Brian Robinson in its backfield, the Crimson Tide turned to the transfer portal. That’s where Nick Saban found Jahmyr Gibbs, and he’s already proving to be a big part of the offense.
That’s not just because of his rushing ability, though. He’s also effective as a receiver.
Gibbs emerged as a major part of the passing game last week against Texas when he totaled a career-high nine receptions for 74 yards and a touchdown to help Alabama to a 20-19 win over the Longhorns. Being a receiver is nothing new for Gibbs, who said he’s been catching passes for some time.

“I’ve done that since high school,” Gibbs said. “I played a lot of receiver — and at [Georgia] Tech — I played a little slot. So, I was pretty used to it coming in.”
Gibbs’ pass-catching ability adds another dimension to the Alabama offense, and that showed against Texas. However, he said the Crimson Tide want to see more, which is why the film sessions will be about making sure the offense gets better ahead of a Week 3 matchup against Louisiana-Monroe.
“I think we did a pretty good job, but we always have stuff we need to work on,” Gibbs said. “We’ll just get back in the film room and improve this week.”

Jahmyr Gibbs explains the key to Alabama’s game-winning drive: ‘Bryce does what Bryce does’
The Alabama offense did just enough to sneak away with the 20-19 win over Texas. With plenty of new talent on that side of the football, though, there’s plenty of acclimation going on offensively. That leaves Heisman quarterback Bryce Young to get all of the Tide’s ducks in a row. In a high-pressure situation, running back Jahmyr Gibbs says everyone got to see his leadership on display this weekend.
Gibbs spoke about their final drive against the Longhorns during his press conference on Monday. He said it wasn’t anything new for him and his Alabama teammate because this is just something that Young does.
“We see it every day,” said Gibbs. “[Bryce] is always calm. He knows how to lead the team and keep everybody else calm around him. He just makes plays and does what Bryce does.”
