Jahmyr Gibbs explains Alabama's mindset after dropping from No. 1 in the polls
Alabama’s season is by no means off the rails. The Crimson Tide handled business against Utah State in their opener and, although their play was sloppy at times, they still escaped Austin with a win over Texas. However, the AP voters decided to move them down from the No. 1 spot in favor of Georgia. To running back Jahmyr Gibbs, he says it doesn’t make a difference to he and his teammates.
Gibbs talked about Alabama’s new No. 2 ranking in the AP Poll during media on Monday. He said they’re not worried about it whatsoever as they’re focused on improving each day and week.

“I haven’t really thought about it too much,” said Gibbs. “I’m just worried about getting better as a team. Taking every game step by step and just going on from there.”
Gibbs had a slow first game in Alabama’s opener but picked up the pace against Texas this weekend. He rushed nine times for just 22 yards but caught nine passes for 94 yards and a touchdown in the 20-19 win.

Alabama may have escaped the upset but they have shown a few flaws they’ll need to clean up this fall. That’s why the poll ranking means so little to Gibbs. All it does is reflect the bit of adversity they faced this weekend. Once they clean up their mistakes, the rankings won’t matter to them in the end.
“I think preparation will be key to getting better every week. (We’re just) practicing hard like we always do,” said Gibbs.
Alabama not being No. 1 can lead some Tide faithful to feel like the sky is falling. That’s especially true when it’s SEC and national rival Georgia who took their top spot. Even so, Jahmyr Gibbs and the rest of Nick Saban’s players know better than to indulge in the ‘rat poison’. They don’t care what number will be by their name when they kick off against UL-Monroe this weekend.
