Jahmyr Gibbs explains the key to Alabama's game-winning drive: 'Bryce does what Bryce does'
The Alabama offense did just enough to sneak away with the 20-19 win over Texas. With plenty of new talent on that side of the football, though, there’s plenty of acclimation going on offensively. That leaves Heisman quarterback Bryce Young to get all of the Tide’s ducks in a row. In a high-pressure situation, running back Jahmyr Gibbs says everyone got to see his leadership on display this weekend.
Gibbs spoke about their final drive against the Longhorns during his press conference on Monday. He said it wasn’t anything new for him and his Alabama teammate because this is just something that Young does.

“We see it every day,” said Gibbs. “(Bryce) is always calm. He knows how to lead the team and keep everybody else calm around him. He just makes plays and does what Bryce does.”

Young was efficient again with a 69.2% completion rate for 213 yards and a touchdown. However, it was what he did on the final drive that sealed the win for the Tide. After getting the ball with 1:29 left, Young completed 5/7 passes and scampered under duress for 20 additional yards. That was all Will Reichard needed to be in position to make the winning, 33-yard kick with 10 seconds remaining.
This was just the latest special moment of Young’s Alabama career. His sophomore season was full of them as it eventually became a Heisman campaign. From what Jahmyr Gibbs and the rest of the country watched him do to end the fourth quarter in Austin, Young is making yet another case as a junior in 2022.
