Jahmyr Gibbs is taking a big step up since transferring from Georgia Tech to Alabama this offseason. The Crimson Tide will place him on a national stage with a ton of expectations. That comes with a ton of pressure for a new player like Gibbs in his first year in Tuscaloosa. Even so, one Alabama veteran has done a lot to help him adjust to his new team.

That veteran is Crimson Tide quarterback and reigning Heisman winner Bryce Young. Gibbs talked about he and Young’s relationship thus far in the last week. He says he has been incredibly impressed by the junior’s ability to throw and his IQ for the game.

“It’s been great. Bryce is very smart, very instinctive. He knows exactly where the ball is going to be placed before the ball is even snapped,” said Gibbs. “It’s crazy. I don’t even know how to explain it.”

With the two expecting a ton of snaps together in 2022, Gibbs and Young have hit the ground running in building their connection. The dual-threat ability Gibbs brings to the Alabama offense will make him an invaluable piece for Young under Nick Saban and Bill O’Brien’s coaching. Gibbs says they’ve done a lot of work overall to find what works best for them as a duo and where they can both be most comfortable on the field.

“It’s been great. We talk through how I want to run my routes, how he wants them. We just adjust off of each other,” Gibbs said.

Pairing the Heisman QB with a Swiss Army Knife of a running back like Gibbs should work wonders for both players. The two accounted for 57 touchdowns last season and could connect for even more this fall. All their bonding will start to pay dividends when they share the backfield for the first time in Alabama’s opener next weekend against Utah State.
