The 2023 season saw Alabama get back to the top of the SEC and make the College Football Playoff. It also ended up being the last for head coach Nick Saban, who ended up retiring. Amid all of that, quarterback Jalen Milroe is excited for the 2024 season.

During the Alabama-Auburn basketball game on Wednesday, Milroe broke down his goals for the 2024 season and what he wants from the year.

“I’m coming back for my senior year,” Jalen Milroe said. “The biggest thing right now is set short term goals and long term goals. And the biggest thing about it, is all of it is able to be achievable. You know, with everything, you gotta embrace it and also surround yourself with a great supporting cast. I have a great supporting cast that’s going to uplift me and put me into the position to be successful.”

Even before Spring practice has started, there is a lot that’s expected of Milroe. Early Heisman Trophy odds are coming in for Milroe at +1200, which is tied for fourth among everyone in the country. Meanwhile, the Crimson Tide are always expected to compete for the SEC and the College Football Playoff.

This all comes amid massive changes for the Alabama program and college football as a whole. In 2024, Texas and Oklahoma will join the SEC while the College Football Playoff is going to expand to 12 teams. All of that is going to have an impact that’s difficult to predict.

Within the Alabama program, Kalen DeBoer has replaced Nick Saban. Already, Jalen Milroe is doing his best to get to know his new coach.

“I’m big on relationships and you know, something I try to do is just really get to know my new head coach, and he’s done a really good job with the squad,” Milroe said. “He brings a good energy within the building. I’m just happy to have him here.”

Jalen Milroe details why he wants to be coached hard at Alabama

A coaching change can leave a lot of questions about the future, including how players are coached. For Jalen Milroe, at least, he wants to continue to get coached hard at Alabama.

“No doubt, no doubt,” Jalen Milroe said. “I want to get the best out of me, you know what I’m saying? And I think the biggest thing is to always be a sponge for all information. And then the biggest thing also is that the coaches want the best out of you. You know, their job is to coach us but also get the best out of each player that they can and so, with them being a coach at heart, they see something in you.”
