Alabama Crimson Tide quarterback Jalen Milroe was watching from the sidelines when LSU Tigers quarterback Jayden Daniels took a shot from Dallas Turner. There was a flag for roughing the passer, but more importantly, it knocked Daniels out of the game with a concussion.

There were those who thought the hit should have been targeting or was even a dirty play. However, Milroe didn’t see it that way.

“Well, football is made to be physical,” Jalen Milroe said. “Shoot, I got hit a couple of times, looked at the ref like, ‘You ain’t gonna call nothing?’ So, that’s football. You’ve got to get up, you know what I’m saying, [and] you’ve got to look at the next play because I’m glad that wasn’t me on the field. I’ll tell you that.”

Dallas Turner did get to Jayden Daniels a half-step late and he got flagged for roughing the passer. Some people thought that he should have also been ejected for the hit. It was certainly close to targeting, with Turner’s helmet catching Daniels in the jaw while the majority of the hit was to his chest.

After the game, LSU head coach Brian Kelly explained why there wasn’t a review for targeting on the hit to Daniels.

“We asked them. They said that the replay booth was reviewing it for targeting. Obviously, I don’t have the ability to see that,” Kelly said. “But anytime that there is contact to the head or neck area, you’re thinking that there must be some form of targeting. They reviewed it, didn’t feel there was and we moved on.”

Targeting or not, the game clearly turned once Daniels left. LSU had been scoring with Alabama in a shootout but once he left the game, the Tigers couldn’t keep up anymore.

Jayden Daniels very briefly returned to the game following the hit before being evaluated for a concussion. Now, Brian Kelly is calling Daniels day-to-day going into the Florida game.

Jalen Milroe says Alabama’s win over LSU was a gift to Nick Saban

Alabama head coach Nick Saban had his birthday leading into the LSU game. Because of that, Jalen Milroe saw the win as a gift to his head coach.

“No. 1 thing, it was Coach’s birthday this week. So that was a birthday gift right there,” Milroe told CBS’ Jenny Dell.

“The message in the locker room was just one play at a time, constantly wanting to build and grow as we approached the field and as a team, [get a] collective win. I’m proud of the guys.”
