Jalen Milroe shares how Texas loss impacted Alabama's mindset
The Alabama team taking the field in November looks completely different than the team that was taking the field in September. For quarterback Jalen Milroe, that change comes down to getting a wake-up call early in the season against Texas.
Milroe explained that the loss to Texas actually changed the Crimson Tide’s mindset as a team.
“We look on it as a learning moment,” Jalen Milroe said. “Not dwelling on that moment but also acknowledging what are some things and corrections that we need to make as a football team.”
Immediately following the Texas game, Jalen Milroe was benched for the USF game. That was a struggle for the Crimson Tide offense and Milroe returned to the starting role after. Since then, he’s become one of the best quarterbacks in the SEC.
“I can honestly say from my angle as an offensive standpoint, we’re steadily growing and learning and I think that’s key to how our success is driven, and I think experience is the best teacher, and we’re constantly looking to improve. I think the hunger is important for our offense,” Milroe said.
Another key change that Malachi Moore pointed out was that after the Texas game, every single game became an elimination game for Alabama. Another loss and the College Football Playoff would likely be out of reach.
“Then, I agree with what Malachi’s statement was,” Milroe added. “We’re just learning and trying to do our job.”
The improvement in Alabama is something that’s hard to miss. Even head coach Nick Saban is incredibly happy with how things have gone throughout the season.

“I think the credit goes to the coaching staff and the players. This group of guys have shown tremendous resiliency to keep working to improve. I think they trust the coaches,” Saban said.
“They respect what we’re trying to do to help them be better players and it’s resulted in a team that has consistently improved throughout the year and we just gotta try to keep trying to do that. We got a lot of guys nicked up today, but hopefully, it’ll be an opportunity for somebody else to step up.”
Nick Saban on the evolution of Alabama’s offense, Jalen Milroe
Recently, Nick Saban spoke about the evolution of quarterback Jalen Milroe and the entire Alabama offense throughout the season.
“I think that it’s probably a combination of both, I think as Jalen gets more comfortable, more confident his reading and seeing things so he can actually do a little more and do some different things. But I also think that the rest of the guys around him are getting more comfortable and executing better,” Saban said.
“So all those things contribute to us being able to do a few things that we can take advantage of. But that’s different every week in terms of what kind of defense are you playing and what do they do and how can you try to take advantage of it.”
