Finding consistency in a program is a major factor in the decision-making process for Tampa (Fla.) Tampa Catholic four-star cornerback Jameer Grimsley. With a dream of playing in the NFL one day, Grimsley wanted to commit to a program that consistently ranks at the top of the college football landscape.

When it came down to it, the program that fit all of his needs was Alabama as Grimsley announced his pledge to the Crimson Tide Saturday evening.

“It’s a great program and they’re always consistently at the top and always committing for a natty,” Grimsley told On3. “They’re always putting in first-rounders especially at my position. Coach (Nick) Saban is the goat of college football and he’s hands-on with the DBs so I’m going to be learning directly from him.”

All it took for Grimsley to know that Tuscaloosa was home were two visits to campus and a few conversations with Saban.

Grimsley noted that Saban’s business-like approach to the game transitioning throughout the team was evident from the first time the two talked.

“Everything has a purpose and is on time,” said Grimsley, the No. 77 player in the 2024 On300. “It’s like a business but it’s also like family at the end of the day because you’re working with your brothers. He has my best interest and of course he wants to win, so if I’m the best I can be, the team is the best it will be and the team will win championships.

“Their end goal is to win national championships and send players to the NFL. It’s the perfect place for me.”

Iron sharpens iron at Alabama

While the decision to commit to Alabama became clearer to Grimsley later on, the Crimson Tide were in a back-and-forth battle with Michigan for a time.

Grimsley noted that Michigan’s education and brand nearly took him to Ann Arbor instead of Tuscaloosa.

“It was a tough decision to make but I decided to bet on myself,” Grimsley said. “My main goal is to go to the league and be a high draft pick so I thought Alabama was the best choice for me because of my goals and dreams.”

Becoming a player good enough to make it to the NFL, Grimsley knows that he has a ton of work to do to get there. Competing in the SEC on a weekly basis and against other top talent at Alabama during practices are ways he feels like will prepare him the best to achieve his goals in the end.

“At the end of the day it prepares you for the NFL because you always have to come with your best because someone is always trying to take your job,” said Grimsley. “That’s really what I like Alabama because Iron sharpens iron. You have to compete in life and everywhere you go so getting used to that now while playing on a great team makes sense.”
