Jameson Williams explains making the Playoffs part of transfer plan
When Jameson Williams transferred from the congested wide receiver room at Ohio State to Alabama, he managed to find more snaps while retaining a chance to play in the College Football Playoffs. According to the 2021 Biletnikoff finalist, that achievement was also part of his transfer plan.
As Alabama prepares to defend its CFP title, Jameson Williams spoke about the importance of his transfer decision and how the Playoffs factored into his process last offseason.
“Yes, I would say this is something I envisioned because I had a lot of plans, big plans, of doing what I did,” Williams told reporters. “And it just was things I’ve been wanting to do since I was a child, dreams I’ve had since I was a child growing up, playing football on the biggest stage, college football playoffs, chance to play for a national championship, things like that. So I would say that would be it.”
After facing Alabama in the CFP championship game last season and playing limited snaps, Williams chose to enter the transfer portal. Entering his junior season, he remained behind Chris Olave, Garrett Wilson and Jaxson Smith-Njigba, who returned along with another batch of top-100 recruits.
With the departure of Heisman Trophy winner Devonta Smith and Jaylen Waddle, Alabama had an open spot across from John Metchie III and found the perfect fit.
This season, Williams has 68 receptions for 1,445 yards and 15 touchdowns with two kick return touchdowns as well.

Jameson Williams on John Metchie
Alabama wide receiver John Metchie will not see the field on Friday against Cincinnati in the Cotton Bowl, but the team leader in receptions this year is still a constant presence as the team prepares for another College Football Playoff appearance.
His teammate and good friend, wideout Jameson Williams, took a moment this week to shed some light on how Metchie is feeling and doing in Dallas after suffering a season-ending ACL injury.
“He’s doing good,” Williams said. “I’ve seen him ‑‑ he’s with us every day. He’s at practice on the sideline. He’s on the buses with us. He kicks it with us in the hotel. So I would say he’s dealing with it very well.”
If Metchie is feeling down about his situation, it does not show.
“I haven’t seen any bad signs,” Williams added. “He always smiles all the time. So I would say he’s dealing with it really great actually.”
