Jameson Williams reveals how he got placed on special teams
Alabama’s star wide receiver Jameson Williams has been one of the most unguardable players in college football this season. Everybody has seen him making plays at the receiver position, but recently he’s started to shine on special teams for the Crimson Tide. What sparked the move, you might ask?
“Actually, I asked to play special teams. It’s great man. I just love being on the field. I’d rather be on the field on that fourth down than be on the sideline. So it’s great just going down with my teammates, making a play. That’s the mentality, go down, make the tackle,” Williams said in Tuesday’s press conference.
The same traits that make him a tough receiver to guard make him a tough defend when it comes to trying to block him on punt returns–he’s ridiculously fast and elusive.

Jameson Williams has been unstoppable for the Crimson Tide this season, however, it was surprising that he didn’t win the Biletnikoff Award. He did earn PFF’s Biletnikoff Award.

The honors were well deserved for Williams, who has displayed his world-class speed on a number of occasions throughout the season. Last weekend in the SEC Championship Game, he was clocked at 22.4 miles per hour and was the fastest ball carrier in college football that weekend.
That’s the kind of speed that’s going to get Williams paid in the National Football League. So far this year, he’s hauled in 68 catches for 1,445 yards, while bringing in 15 touchdowns.
He’s had seven games in which he’s racked up over 100 receiving yards and has one and potentially two more games left in the College Football Playoff to pad those stats.
Williams and the Alabama Crimson Tide face off against the Cincinnati Bearcats in the Goodyear Cotton Bowl in the College Football Playoff Semifinal. The game will be played at AT&T Stadium in Dallas on Dec. 31 at 3:30 p.m. EST.
