Jason Jackson addresses controversial moment from Game 1 vs. Wake Forest

Jason Jackson and the Alabama Crimson Tide fell to Wake Forest 5-4 in Game 1 of their Super Regional showdown.

However, it wasn’t without some controversy. Jackson’s squad was slightly miffed by what they believed was a missed call on a check swing. Instead of getting out of the inning, the Demon Deacons then clobbered a home run, giving them the lead and allowing them to never look back.

Afterwards, Jackson was more level-headed when speaking with the media, and gave the umpires credit for their challenging assignment.

“Yeah, check swings are tough. Check swings are tough calls. Guy’s got a tough job on that,” started the interim Alabama skipper. “You know, from where I am in the dugout, he’s got a better view than I do. But from where we’re at, obviously we thought that was strike three. And then, it’s an emotional game. You know, that’s a big swing. Then the next guy hits a home run. So you know, emotions get the best of you, probably a little bit.

“But you know, I don’t know. I thought he went. But that’s yeah, I said that’s always a tough call for umpires, you know. I guess.”

Nevertheless, it definitely stings when something like that happens on such a big stage, but Alabama still has a shot. The Crimson Tide will look to get even with Wake Forest on Sunday afternoon.

More on Day 3 of 2023 Super Regionals

Continuing, it’s Sunday of Super Regional weekend, meaning one thing. A few tickets to the College World Series are going to be punched. Something every team in the country has been working toward all season, a few flights are going to be booked to Omaha in the near future. In what has been an exciting NCAA Tournament, we are nearing the final eight teams.

Two tickets to Omaha were punched on Saturday.  Florida was the first to advance to the College World Series with a 4-0 win and sweep of South Carolina in the Gainesville Super Regional. The Gators were joined as ticket holders to Omaha by TCU, which completed the sweep of Indiana State on Saturday evening with a 6-4 win over the Sycamores in the Forth Worth Super Regional.

To no surprise, weather played a huge factor in the schedule on Saturday. Plenty of games were pushed back due to rain/lightning being in the area. The Hattiesburg did not complete Game 1 on Saturday due to weather. The game was suspended in the fourth inning with Southern Miss leading Tennessee, 4-0.

Everyone will be hoping Mother Nature stays away on Sunday, leaving us with a full, great day of baseball.
