Jason Jackson reveals what fans should expect to see in this Alabama baseball team
Jason Jackson took over Alabama at an interesting time since the Crimson Tide fired head coach Brad Bohannon amid a betting scandal.
But since then, Alabama is 3-1, including winning two of three over No. 5 Vanderbilt. Jackson was appreciative of the opportunity to lead Alabama baseball and expects his guys to finish strong.
There are two series left, a road three-game tilt against Texas A&M and a home stand versus Ole Miss.
“They’re gonna see a group of guys that really love to play,” Jackson said. “They love to play together. I think they’re gonna see, you know, a team that’s hungry and hopefully getting hot at the right time.”
Jackson mentioned how the weekend series really shifted the focus of the team.
“Well, I think our guys are you know, playing well right now,” Jackson said. “You know, we had a great weekend, we really pitched well. I thought, especially our starters, those guys all went deep in the game. And when you do that, it kind of protects bullpen when you get some length out of your starter.
“We got some guys that need to pitch, we got some guys that haven’t been out there a little bit that are hungry to get on the mound. So I know they’ll be fired up and we got some guys that are, you know, really, you know, doing well offensively. So just keep on doing our thing.”
Alabama baseball coach Brad Bohannon fired amid betting scandal
Jackson took over for Bohannon amid the coaching change. It was a rocky week for Alabama baseball.
The Ohio Casino Control Commission first reported “suspicious wagering activity” at the BetMGM sportsbook at Great American Ballpark in Cincinnati, Ohio, involving the Alabama-LSU game on Friday and multiple states began to halt bets on Alabama baseball, according to ESPN.

According to Ronnie Johns, the chairman of the Louisiana Gaming Control Board, via a report from NOLA.com, two bets were under scrutiny, including one large bet.
“There were a couple of bets made in Cincinnati, Ohio,” Johns said. “One was on a parlay which involved the LSU-Alabama game, and then there was another straight-up (money line) bet, I was told it was a large bet that involved LSU-Alabama.”
Johns confirmed the bets were on the Tigers to win, leading him to believe the suspicious activity didn’t come from the LSU side.
“That in itself indicates that there’s definitely no suspicious activity on the part of LSU,” Johns said. “You don’t typically suspect the team that was picked to win the game. The problem would have been whether someone on the Alabama side was suspicious of activity.”
