Alabama offensive lineman Javion Cohen knows the Iron Bowl well. An Alabama native, he was, at one point, committed to Auburn before flipping to Alabama. The game itself is one that he both respects and loves the history of and what it means to the entire state.

While speaking to the media, Javion Cohen was asked about his decision to flip from Auburn to Alabama as a recruit and what the game means to him.

“It’s a huge game, not only for me but for this entire facility, for the entire state of Alabama,” Javion Cohen said. “Everybody knows the implications of this game, regardless of the record, regardless of where we are.”

“We all know this a game that you want to win. It’s a resume game and I plan on fighting as hard as I can and trying to help me and my teammates get back to the Alabama standard this week and finish 1-0.”

Later, Javion Cohen was asked about his memories from last season’s game.

“It’s a great time. Definitely, because the game was one of those that we needed to propel us to where we ultimately wanted to be last season, [which] was have a shot at the national championship. It’s a great game. It’s a spirited rivalry,” Javion Cohen continued.

“I remember heading into overtime we were on the sidelines, us and Auburn, and they played some music in the stadium and I just remember our entire leadership group bringing that energy to the sideline, and like those types of things that you look to when you see a rivalry. And, this game, I expect to be no different.”

It’s moments like that game last season that go down as legendary in the history of this rivalry. It’s those moments that make the game special to so many people and bigger than any individual player.

“Like I said before, it means a lot to a lot of people,” Javion Cohen explained. “Means a lot to everybody in this facility and a lot of people over the state, and the history of this rivalry is something that’s going to continue to carry on, whether I’m here or gone. That’s just a part of it, you know. Showing some sportsmanship would be advised, of course, and this is a new year, new season, and we’re just ready to finish the week 1-0.”

Will Anderson on his approach to the Iron Bowl

For every player in this rivalry, the approach is going to be different. However, they all treat the game with respect. Will Anderson, for one, knows that this is still one of the biggest games in the country.

“You know, this is like one of the biggest games in the country. It means a lot to a lot of people here. I know it means a lot to people in the facility and the players,” Will Anderson said.

“But to play in another Iron Bowl is going to be good. Auburn has a really good team, a really good coaching staff, and everything like that. So, it’s going to be a good challenge for us but we’re ready to accept that challenge and go out there and play to the Alabama standard.”
