JC Latham claims Jalen Milroe can be 'one of the best quarterbacks in the country'
Alabama is currently in a quarterback battle to see who is going to replace Bryce Young in 2023. For offensive lineman JC Latham, he sees tons of potential in one quarterback, in particular, Jalen Milroe.
While at SEC media days, Latham explained that he thinks Milroe could be one of the best quarterbacks in the entire country, though he’s clearly confident in the Crimson Tide, regardless of who ends up winning the starting job.
“I got confidence in the whole group, whoever’s out there,” Latham said. “I know each guy has taken the preparation to be great. Each guy has taken the preparation to go out and succeed. Whoever lines up at quarterback and whoever’s the quarterback of the team is going to take the role of that leadership role. I know they’re going to be great.”
Last season, Milroe acted as the backup quarterback for Young and got some playing time when Young was dealing with an injury. In all, the former four-star recruit in the 2021 cycle played in eight games. In that time, he had a 58.5 completion percentage, for 297 yards and five touchdowns. His biggest issue was that he also had three interceptions.
“As far as J. Mil goes, I know he has the potential to be one of the best quarterbacks in the country, if not the best. I have no doubt in anybody else that plays as well.”
Along with Milroe, Notre Dame transfer Tyler Buchner and Ty Simpson are both competing for the starting job in Tuscaloosa. Buchner spent time as the starter at Notre Dame but was limited by injuries. Meanwhile, Simpson was a five-star recruit in the 2022 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Rankings.

JC Latham is predicting Alabama to win a national championship
JC Latham has heard all the praise for Georgia as the Bulldogs try and three-peat. He also feels that the Crimson Tide have been unfairly written off when he thinks that Alabama is actually on its way to winning a national championship this season.
“Alabama OL JC Latham and OLB Dallas Turner both spoke at length about the ‘disrespect’ they feel at the Crimson Tide not being considered the favorite in 2023,” On3’s Jesse Simonton tweeted. “How’s this for rat poison: Latham straight said Alabama is ‘going to win it all this year.’”
This would go against a narrative that has sprung up, revolving around how dominant Georgia is as a program. However, as Latham explained, that narrative motivates him.
“It motivates me. Our group, as a whole — we don’t like that. Guys try to say our culture has changed or our dynasty is over with. We say that’s a slap to the face because people think we’re not out there to be the best. We’re going to silence it all this year and we’re going to take each game in stride and understand what our goal is. There are guys out there who don’t think we are who we once were.”
