Jermaine Burton addresses decision to transfer to Alabama, motivation
Jermaine Burton is opening up about his decision to transfer to Alabama following defeating the Crimson Tide in the 2022 College Football National Championship Game with the Georgia Bulldogs.
Speaking with the media, the former Bulldogs wide receiver answered what went into his decision to take his talents to Tuscaloosa.
“I’m just trying make the best decision I can for me and my family,” stated Burton. “Like I said again, I couldn’t thank this program enough for the way they welcomed me and brought me in and treated me like one of their own.
“From this point on now, I’m just focusing on this team and what we can do to get better.”
Evidently, it was a simple decision for Burton — but the Alabama wide receiver is motivated by how graciously his teammates welcomed him from a rival squad.
“What motivates me is the way these guys treated me when I came into the program,” added Burton. “I couldn’t thank these guys enough. Regardless of the outcome of last year’s game and me being on the other side of the ball, I’m here now and I think that’s what I really need to focus on, and focusing on this team and what we can do this year.”

Coming from a program that snatched a title away from his now-teammates, Burton expected an interesting dynamic when he joined the Crimson Tide. However, the former Bulldogs wide receiver continued to say how elated he was that his new squad took him in with open arms.
“Yeah, it definitely was, but honestly it went — it went the way I didn’t think it would go. I thought it was going to be like, some guys who still felt some kind of way about the game, or some guys who had a kind of envy or any kind of animosity,” Burton responded, when asked about how he thought the dynamic would be with him coming from a rival squad. “But like I said, this team brought me in with unbelievable arms, and welcomed me. Honestly, we didn’t even have any sort of issue about that. I honestly got more congratulated than anything. The guys just brought me in, they wanted me to work with them.
“I honestly forgot about that game. I want to win it with this team.”
While Jermaine Burton may not be the most popular player in Athens after jumping ship for a bitter rival, the newly-minted Crimson Tide wide receiver is already endearing himself to fans in Tuscaloosa by saying all the right thins.
