Jermaine Burton will step into Tuscaloosa as one of Bryce Young’s go-to options in the receiving corp. The former Georgia wideout transferred to Alabama this offseason and is two weeks out from his Crimson Tide debut. He and Young will need to be on the same page early in order to keep Alabama’s offense afloat from 2021. Due to their prior relationship, Burton says that should be no problem.

Burton talked about his connection with his new quarterback during his press conference on Monday. He said his relationship with Young from high school helped lead him to Alabama and that they’ve hit the ground running ever since.

“My relationship with Bryce is great. (He’s) a guy I’ve also known since high school as well. I did my last two years out in California so our relationship was pretty good there as well,” said Burton. “When I came in here, it just clicked. We just both wanted the best for each other. He wanted me to learn the offense as quick as possible.”

Burton had 53 catches for 901 yards and eight touchdowns during his pair of seasons in Athens. With John Metchie and Jameson Williams off to the NFL, Burton saw plenty of opportunity to be Young’s new WR1 at Alabama. He says plenty of time spent studying with his new QB and staff have helped prepare him for this fall.

“Coming into spring, I was able to come in and meet with Bryce a lot, my receiver coach, (and) our offensive coordinator. Those meetings help out a lot too but nothing is better to me than repetition,” said Burton. “Just getting out there and practicing and repping the plays is honestly helpful.”

Jermaine Burton and Bryce Young will need to be on the same page early for Alabama. Based on Burton’s expectations, they’ll be able to do just that heading into their opener against Utah State.
