WATCH: Jermaine Burton hauls in first touchdown catch of Alabama career
It didn’t take long for Jermaine Burton to make his presence felt at Alabama. The Georgia transfer receiver corralled the first touchdown of his Crimson Tide career just nine minutes into the first quarter of Saturday’s season opener against Utah State.
Quarterback Bryce Young found an open Burton cutting across the back of the end zone for the five-yard score, which gave Alabama an early 10-0 lead.
Not long after his first touchdown catch, Burton added another to start the in the second quarter. This one was a two-yard connection in which Young found an open Burton running a slant route.
Burton finished the game with five catches for 35 yards and the pair of scores. He was one of three Alabama players with two receiving touchdowns, along with Traeshon Holden and Jase McClellan. He also tied for the team lead in receptions along with Holden and Kobe Prentice.

Alabama went on to win the game in a 55-0 shutout, scoring all of its points in the first three quarters. Last year’s Heisman Trophy winner, Young was 18-of-28 for 195 yards passing and six total touchdowns, providing a glimpse at how explosive this offense can be in 2022.
The No. 2 receiver according to On3’s Transfer Portal Rankings, Jermaine Burton is poised for a big role that Alabama offense following the losses of Jameson Williams and John Metchie. Last year with the Bulldogs, he totaled 26 catches for 497 yards and five touchdowns this past season.
He’ll hope to continue his impressive start to the season when Crimson Tide take on Texas next Saturday at noon ET at Darryl K Royal Memorial Stadium in Austin. That battle between college football powers should provide a much bigger test for Burton and the rest of the Alabama offense than Saturday’s season opener.
