Once again, Alabama Football is in the hunt for a new offensive coordinator. The position has become a trampoline to even better jobs as of late, having just landed Bill O’Brien the OC job with the Patriots after a few years spent in Tuscaloosa. Of course, current Ole Miss coach Lane Kiffin and Texas coach Steve Sarkisian are another big names who saved their careers by taking the Crimson Tide OC job. It’s a coveted position, no doubt, and one that demands a proven name and respectable track record.

So, one name that’s been thrown out sort of in the O’Brien mold is recently-fired Arizona Cardinals coach Kliff Kingsbury. Lauded as a forward-thinking offensive mind, Arizona took a swing with Kingsbury after he was let go from Texas Tech — where he helped groom Patrick Mahomes into the nation’s passing leader and a first-round pick in the NFL Draft.

FOX College football analyst Joel Klatt batted around the idea of Kingsbury going to Tuscaloosa, but doesn’t believe he would want to since he’s kicking it in Thailand while still collecting millions of dollars from the Cardinals.

Here was Klatt’s assessment:

“I mean, Kliff Kingsbury, we like him. Would that not be amazing right now? Will he do that? I have no idea. I have no idea and, by the way, he’s getting paid so much money to just be in Thailand. And it’s like…hey man, we see it on social media, you’ve got a good life, you know, like hanging out. He doesn’t need to go down there.”

There you have it. Kliff Kingsbury not a likely name for the Alabama OC gig.

Finebaum confident no matter who Saban chooses

Whether or not Kingsbury is the guy, SEC Network analyst Paul Finebaum is confident Nick Saban will find the perfect man for the job. After all, he’s done an exceptional job each of the last few times he’s had to hire someone.

“I think it’s a really empty argument,” Finebaum said. “Nick Saban knows what he’s doing. Besides, he’s got recruiting to finish up and it’s pretty obvious that the coordinator search is not affecting recruiting at all, based on what everyone knows. So, you know, he’s either being very deliberate for a reason and maybe there’s a specific reason, maybe someone’s not available, maybe it’s taking longer to go through a process. But I don’t think — I think that’s just the natural uneasiness of fans. But when it comes to making personnel choices, I would be the last person in America to criticize Nick Saban. He’s proven time and time again that he knows how to conduct a coaching search. No one has conducted more or better than he has.”
