The latest rendition of the 2021 Iron Bowl will go down in history as one of the all-time greats, as Alabama emerged victorious, 24-22, in the fourth overtime.

Auburn’s defense played its heart out against Heisman Trophy favorite Bryce Young and Alabama’s potent offense, holding the Crimson Tide scoreless through the first three quarters. Auburn led 10-0 all game, only for Alabama to score ten fourth-quarter points, sending it into overtime. Surely enough, one overtime period wasn’t enough to decide the outcome, either. Both teams scored a touchdown in the first added period, both scored a field goal in the second added period, sending it to a back-and-forth two-point conversion affair.

Eventually, Alabama got the last laugh, with wide receiver John Metchie III reeling in the game-winning two-point conversion. Not only did he seal the fate of the game and keep Alabama’s College Football Playoff hopes alive, but he did it in style, trolling Auburn on the way out.

Alabama wide receiver Jameson Williams has struck the same Karate Kid pose after most every touchdown this season. However, earlier in Saturday’s contest, Williams — who was lining up on special teams — was ejected after he was flagged for targeting, creating a sizable hole in Alabama’s offense. After Williams’ ejection, Auburn mocked the Crimson Tide, using the same Karate Kid celebration twice.

First, Auburn safety Smoke Monday pulled out the celebration, mocking Alabama and Williams, midway through the second quarter.

After Monday got his turn, Auburn’s punter Oscar Chapman got in on the fun. Chapman executed on one of his several textbook punts on the night, pinning Alabama deep in its own side of the field, and struck the Karate Kid pose himself.

Ultimately, Alabama had the last laugh, as Metchie avenged his ejected teammate with the same Karate Kid celebration after ending the game. Metchie’s game-winning two-point conversion put the nail in the coffin and finished his terrific night with 13 receptions for 150 receiving yards.

Alabama quarterback Bryce Young had trouble completing his passes all day, as Auburn’s defense brought pressure early and often. Young may have thrown for 317 yards and two touchdowns, but he threw his first interception in several weeks, while completing only 25 of his 51 passes. Luckily, for Alabama, Auburn’s offense wasn’t much better. Quarterback TJ Finley, playing for the injured Bo Nix, completed 17 of 26 passes for 137 passing yards, two touchdowns and one interception.

The win moved Alabama to 11-1 on the year, and the Crimson Tide will next face Georgia in the SEC Championship game. Auburn, on the other hand, finishes just barely bowl eligible, with a 6-6 record.
