Could former Alabama teammates John Metchie and Mac Jones reunite with the New England Patriots? If it comes to fruition, the former Crimson Tide star wide receiver believes the duo could be elite.

“Alabama’s John Metchie said he’s really close with Mac Jones. He was happy to see Mac have success last year,” tweeted Mark Daniels of the Providence Journal. “Said he’s met with the Patriots here at the Combine. The receiver thinks he and ‘Mac10 would be special.'”

Even though Jones had a memorable rapport with the eventual Heisman Trophy recipient in wide receiver DeVonta Smith, his connection with Metchie shouldn’t be forgotten. The Alabama star wide receiver was Jones’ safety blanket, racking up the statistics, as well.

With Jones throwing him the football in 2020, Metchie caught 55 passes for 916 yards. Additionally, the Crimson Tide star scored six touchdowns. As you can see, an innate connection is there for the former Alabama stars.

After an impressive rookie season, the Patriots will be looking for ways to help Mac Jones improve. Drafting him one of his favorite targets from Alabama would be a huge step in the right direction.

More on Mac Jones, New England Patriots

Heading into his second year in New England, former Alabama quarterback Mac Jones is dialed in on all the ways he can become a better player in 2022. Jones is staying in the Foxborough area during the offseason, despite hailing from sunny Florida.

“I want to be back close to home in New England in the offseason because we obviously have our place there,” Jones said, via Mass Live. “Just figuring out ways to be a better quarterback and then do whatever we can to put more points up on the board so we can win more games.”

In his first year, the former Crimson Tide star led the Pats to the playoffs for the first time since Tom Brady’s departure. He finished his rookie season with 4,033 passing yards, 24 touchdowns, and 15 interceptions.

“This offseason will be a big, big part of it, just getting stronger and cleaning up on my diet and all that,” Jones said. “So there’s a lot that’s gonna go into it before next season even starts. That’s the important part, attacking that, and then hopefully a lot of big changes will come, with whether it’s mechanics or the playbook. I have a lot of time now to kind of digest everything and kind of take it over, how I want to do it.”

Mac Jones is quick to point out that his overall physique could use some work. He got big laughs when he shared at the Pro Bowl that he indulges in ice cream too much.

“I like ice cream too much, like a lot of people,” Jones said. “Just limit it and then try and eat healthy, like we do at the Patriots. I just got to talk to Ted (Harper), our nutritionist, and make sure we’re on the same page.”
