Jordan Battle isn’t ready to circle October 8 on his calendar, but the Alabama star can feel the hype growing for their showdown with Texas A&M.

As if avenging their loss from last season wasn’t enough motivation, the war of words between Nick Saban and Jimbo Fisher has added some extra juice to the matchup. However, the Crimson Tide star safety is treating it like any other game.

“We don’t circle dates on the calendar. We focus week-in and week-out on each game that we have coming up,” stated Battle. “We have to know that we’re going to get every team’s best, so I don’t think we’re allowed to circle dates on the calendar. But just focusing on each game, trying to get better each week so we can get to that end goal, and that’s that championship that we’re all focusing on.”

Continuing, Alabama and Aggies have met up 10 times since A&M joined the SEC in 2012. Alabama has dominated the series with an 8-2 record and an average margin of victory of 22.5 points. While Fisher is just 1-3 during his tenure, he owns the most recent win from last season.

According to Battle, business will be handled on the field — not by talking off of it.

“We’re focusing on winning every game, or just playing week-in and week-out until we see them, and then we can handle our business on the field,” answered the Alabama star. “We’re not going to really talk about what we’re going to do off the field. We’re just focusing on things we can do on the field to make that game exciting for the fans and everybody.”

Still, Battle recognizes there’s some extra fuel on the fire — especially with the Crimson Tide suffering a loss to the Aggies last season.

“I think absolutely, naturally, for any football player to lose a game, I think that adds fuel, you know, for the next opponent,” explained Battle. “I feel like that’s a big thing.

“We like to feed off things that we don’t do well so we can build on it. Not make that same mistake in the next game.”

Jordan Battle may not be circling Texas A&M on his calendar, but everyone else in the college football world is.

Will Anderson reveals thoughts on Alabama-Texas A&M

Moreover, Will Anderson is arguably the most talented player in college football, and he discussed the matchup between Alabama and the Aggies later this year during press at SEC Media Days in Atlanta. He agrees with Jordan Battle, saying the Crimson Tide understand who the opponent is, but will go into it how they do every game.

“We approach every game the same. We know the history behind that game (and) we know what to expect, the type of game it’s going to be,” said Anderson. “We’re just gonna go out there and play Alabama football.”

Both sides could talk themselves in circles, but Anderson says it won’t get settled until the pads are on. He says both sides can duke it out in Denny Bryant Stadium and end the conversation on their terms for the foreseeable future.

“We note it. We don’t have to speak on it too much (because) we see what’s going on. When the pads get on and the game gets going, we’ll address it then.”
