Report: Juwan Gary garnering plenty of interest in transfer portal
Schools are starting to reach out to Alabama transfer Juwan Gary after he entered the transfer portal last week. So far, it’s quite a list.
South Carolina, Wichita State, Wake Forest, Nebraska, Georgia, Memphis, Charlotte, South Florida, Georgia Tech, DePaul, Western Kentucky and LSU have all reached out to express interest in Gary so far, according to HoopSeen’s Justin Byerly. Gary is coming off his second season with Alabama and started 16 games throughout the year.
As a sophomore in 2021-22, Gary averaged 6.5 points and 3.4 rebounds in 15.6 minutes per game for the Crimson Tide. His biggest game of the year came against Florida in January when he dropped 19 points and grabbed eight rebounds to help Alabama to an 83-70 win in Gainesville. He also had a solid showing in the NCAA Tournament against Notre Dame, scoring 10 points and pulling down four boards in the Crimson Tide’s first-round loss.
Gary arrived in Tuscaloosa as a four-star recruit and a top-100 prospect from the Class of 2019, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

“I want to thank the ‘Bama family, Coach Oats, Coach Pettway, Coach Charlie, Coach B, and the rest of the staff for all the things you have done & taught me in the game of basketball,” Gary wrote. “I have built much love for the university from the 3 years of being here, and the connection I have with with a lot of great people.
“After these past 2 weeks of hard thinking of making my decision, I have finally come to the conclusion of putting my name in the transfer portal and pursue my basketball career somewhere else.”
It hasn’t taken long for him to land on schools radars, either. The former four-star recruit has heard from the likes of Wake Forest, New Mexico, South Carolina, USF and Clemson to inquire about the Alabama transfer since entering the portal, though doesn’t have a set date when he is supposed to make a commitment decision yet.
Gary played in 59 games at Alabama, making 18 starts before opting to enter the transfer portal. He averaged 5.1 points and 3.1 rebounds over the past two years and helped lead his team to the Sweet 16 in 2021.
